LUMOS

Lumos was born from a shared passion for all things beauty and haircare. In an increasingly overcrowded, and oversaturated market, co-founders Akta and Julia noticed the need for a simplified solution for great hair, backed by expert knowledge. Julia and Akta met during their marketing careers, and became fast friends. They bonded over their passion for the beauty and haircare industries and went from being ‘work friends’ to part of each other's closest network. Already knowing they worked well together, they decided to merge their marketing expertise and unique backgrounds, to form Lumos. The aim of Lumos is to bridge the gap between the science of trichology and hair care, to provide a singular solution that is accessible for all. Education is at the core of Lumos’ ethos, and not only does the brand want to give people great hair through Lumos products, but also empower individuals with knowledge of the industry, so they know exactly how and what they need to achieve their hair goals.

Akta

Akta’s journey into the world of haircare started after a traumatic period in her life in 2019 when faced with the reality of losing excessive amounts of her hair. Throughout this period, Akta experimented with various ingredients found in her mother’s kitchen until she found Lumos’ secret sauce, Fenugreek, which helped with her hair loss. Additionally, in the past year, Akta was also confronted with yet another hair-related challenge when she was diagnosed with early pattern thinning, a genetically inherited condition associated with excess male hormones. These experiences fueled her determination to help others facing similar challenges. It became her personal mission to provide support and solutions to those struggling with hair loss, and from this, successfully built a large community on social media. Her transparency and willingness to share her struggles resonated deeply with her followers, turning her into a trusted source of inspiration and knowledge. In 2023, Akta wanted to deepen her understanding of hair and scalp health and decided to study trichology, a specialized field focused on the health of hair and scalp. Her goal is to merge her personal experiences with the knowledge gained through her studies to make a real impact on the lives of those who are going through their own challenges, and to make the science of hair more accessible to those who don’t have the knowledge.

JULIA

Julia is passionate about all things creative, and has a background in the beauty industry working on creative direction for campaigns, as well as spearheading social media strategies. Previous roles have included working at MAC Cosmetics UK (Social Media and Creative) and Samsung Electronics (Social Media and Gen Z Campaign Manager). Back in 2018, Julia was diagnosed with GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder) which impacted her day-to-day, often making it hard to function or leave the house. Whilst her overall mental health has improved, the stress and anxiety that she experiences has had an impact not only mentally, but physically. When her stress or anxiety is heightened, Julia suffers with hair loss, as well as a lack of motivation to take care of her appearance. She has always wanted a simple solution that works for people like her, who still want to stick with a routine on days when mental health is low. Simplicity is key, and often those with poor mental health can’t face something as basic as brushing their hair, so Julia found it important that Lumos should be holistic and easily accessible for all.
